Massage Modalities

Each specialty apporach to healing has its particular strengths. While it may be beneficial to stick to a specific modality, I often integrate several massage techniques together to achieve optimum results. You may also choose to add some acupuncture into a massage session with me.


When you come in for your treatment with me, we will discuss your situation, long-term issues and what may be pestering you at the moment. We will then come up with the best methods to use for that session. The wonderful thing is that they all feel great!


Below are some of the modalities I may use in a session, or you may request a specific one(s) you usually prefer. For example, Shiatsu and Tui Na may be done while you wear loose, comfortable clothing.


This classic Western style uses long strokes, kneading, and all that good stuff to relax muscles, loosen fascia and readjust your patterns of tension. Uses coconut oil.


Deep Tissue

More focalized work addresses muscle adhesions and deeper layers of muscle fibers. This firmer pressure gets to the underlying layers which are often the source of some chronic issues. It is usually used with Swedish massage.



As a life-long dancer, yogini and outdoor athlete, I have a deep understanding of sports-related injuries. I work frequently and effectively with these painful and frustrating issues.



Shiatsu is a form of therapeutic bodywork from Japan. It uses rhythmic pressing, soothing, tapping, and stretching techniques and is traditionally performed without oils through light, comfortable clothing. Shiatsu improves the flow of energy and help the body regain balance. It is effective for deep muscle relaxation, stress reduction and detoxification, and can be used to address a variety of issues such as headaches, PMS, digestive disorders, fatigue, insomnia, fibromyalgia, anxiety, low back pain and joint pain.


I incorporate Shiatsu in my Swedish and combo sessions, however I love to offer pure Shiatsu-only sessions as an option for my clients.


Tui Na

Tui Na is an Asian bodywork therapy that has been used in China for over 2,000 years. It is a fun massage modality that loosens muscles and tendons, increases the flow of qi (energy) , and realigns the musculoskeletal and ligamentous relationships in the body. Tuina seeks to establish a more harmonious flow of Qi through the system of channels and collaterals, allowing the body to naturally heal itself.



This ancient healing art uses the fingers to gradually press key healing points, which stimulates the body's natural self-curative abilities. It is great at treating stress-related ailments and boosts the immune system. Acupressure releases tension, increases circulation, reduces pain, and develops vibrant health.


Prenatal Massage

Prenatal massage is a safe, healthy way to relieve issues associated in all three trimesters of pregnancy. It has been delighting mamas-to-be for millenia, as it relaxes muscles in the neck, back and legs, as well as helping to reduce nausea. I do take care to avoid certain acupressure points contraindicated, and use plenty of cushions and supports for safe, cozy comfort.
