LAST CLASS: JULY 26

A mindful adventure in Yosemite National Park, wilderness camping and backpacking, weaving together the practice of yoga with our explorations in nature.

Cost:
$175 deposit required to hold your spot.
Deposit is refundable, minus a $25 processing fee, up to 30 days before the date of the trip. The deposit will be used to pay for shared expenses such as permit fees, group gear and food that will be purchased prior to departure.

Teaching:
All yoga, meditation and backcountry skills instruction offered freely. Your generosity, dana*, is greatly appreciated.

*Dana (generosity) practice:
In the Buddhist tradition, the teachings are given freely because they are considered priceless; in the Buddhist tradition we also practice dana, or generosity, by making monetary offerings for the teachings. Dana is not payment for goods or services rendered; it is given from the heart. Your generosity is a gift that supports not just the teachers, but also the Sangha, the larger Dharma community, and your own practice.

The deposit is the fee to cover expenses for the trip. Once the trip is complete I will accept donations to support the work that I have done. A trip like this would, on average, cost around $600. A suggested donation would be $100-$150 per day. I will gladly accept any amount you are able to contribute. Please do not make your decision based on funds if the suggested amount is daunting.

My intention for Yosemite Yoga:

It is my hope to provide a gently facilitated wilderness adventure with enough structure to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip and enough flexibility to allow the specifics of each day to unfold according the desires and interests of the group.

Enjoy the tranquil and awe inspiring splendor of the Sierras in the company of friends. We will hike, practice yoga, sit quietly in the presence of wind and breath, cook and eat together.

My Offerings:

  • Yoga and meditation instruction.
  • Backcountry cooking and expedition skills, trip planning and logistics.
  • Lightweight backpacking instruction and gear recommendations.
  • Group facilitation and wilderness leadership.
  • Awareness games and exercises, journaling and creative writing topics.
  • My incredible love and passion for the Yosemite wilderness.

What to expect:

This will be an all levels yoga and backpacking trip, no experience necessary, though an appropriate level of fitness will be required, along with an enthusiastic willingness to try something new. Also, appropriate for seasoned outdoors people who would like to slow down and integrate a yoga and mindfulness practice into their wilderness adventure.

The exact itinerary and daily mileage will be determined by the abilities and interests of the group. I recommend that you are able to hike at least 5-8 miles carrying 25-30 lbs. If you have questions or concerns about this don’t hesitate to contact me. The first day of hiking will be the most challenging as our packs will be heaviest at this point. We may choose to basecamp, in which case we will only carry full packs twice, on the way in and the way out. Or, we may choose to move camps once or twice, each day our packs a little bit lighter as we lighten our load with each meal we consume.

Tentative Itinerary:
There are two possible itineraries for this adventure. I would like to get a feel for the needs, desires and interests of the group before making a final decision regarding our specific route.

Trip A: Snow Creek July 8-11/12
Out and back base camp option.
Friday, July 8: Meet at Porcupine Creek trailhead in the morning for orientation and introductions. Hike to Snow Creek falls. *Optional: camp at White Wolf or other Yosemite backpackers campground July 7th. I will reserve sites for us.

Trip B: Ten Lakes July 8-12
Loop or out and back moving camps each night.
Friday, July 8: Meet at White Wolf or other Yosemite Backpackers camp. First night will be car camping, orientation, introductions and prep for backpacking. I will reserve sites for us.

Day 1:
At a relaxed hiking pace we will take time to enjoy the elements of our new surroundings. We will take our time to acclimatize and find our mountain legs. After arriving at our destination we will set up camp and perhaps enjoy a restful afternoon yoga practice. In the evening we'll share the preparation and enjoyment of a delicious dinner. Evenings may include fireside stories, journal activities or gazing at the Milky Way from the cozy comfort of your sleeping bag.

Days 2-3/4:
The next days allow us to adapt to the natural rhythms of the planet, and flow with the specific interests of the group. After a morning yoga session and breakfast, we may pack our packs and journey out on a day hike through some of Yosemite’s finest scenery, or move camp to a new location. We may now feel a settling into our new home among granite domes, rushing creeks or peaceful lake waters. In addition to the adventure of backpacking, each day provides opportunities for swimming in alpine lakes or nearby creeks, day hikes to sweeping views of the High Sierra, or perhaps simply relaxing in our backcountry home.

Days 4/5:
Our last morning, we will enjoy a yoga and meditation practice before sharing our last breakfast on in the backcountry. Then we will pack our backpacks and begin hiking to the exit trailhead. Bringing closure to our journey together, we will aim to conclude by mid afternoon.

Note on Itinerary:
This itinerary is meant to be an outline of what is possible. All plans are subject to change based on circumstances, needs, interests and desires of the group,
allowing for spontaneous inspiration and events out of our control.

If you have any questions please contact me and let me know.

Smooth Qi

A Therapeutic Yoga Workshop

Join me for an afternoon of wellness dedicated to nurturing and self care this Spring. A gentle, nourishing approach to cleansing and releasing toxins and energy blockages in the body and mind.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) spring is associated with Liver energy and the wood element. In spring time the energy of new growth and activity can be exciting as well as stressful, and overwhelming. The Liver is responsible for the smooth flow of Qi in the body, when there is stagnation and disharmony in the Liver we experience mental and emotional stress, physical discomfort and pain, sluggishness and difficulty moving forward.

This workshop will include a deep therapeutic yoga practice which will focus on postures that stimulate the smooth and harmonious flow of Liver Qi while balancing the wood element in the body. Therapeutic Yoga blends restorative yoga, gentle yoga, breath work, hands-on healing, and guided meditation techniques. These practices are combined in such a way that they gently and effectively bring the body into balance and reduces stress, supporting the bodies innate capacity to return to a state of health and harmony.

We will conclude the afternoon with a final relaxation pose with optional acupuncture treatment to enhance the deep rest and healing potential of savasana.

Prepare to rest and allow freedom and ease to return to the body

Join us for an afternoon of wellness dedicated to nurturing and self care for the winter season.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) winter is associated with the Kidney energy and the water element. In winter our active yang energy rests deep in the body, metabolism slows and our need for rest increases. This is the time of the year when it is most important to nourish the Kidney qi, yin and yang, by creating a lifestyle which promotes quiet, introspection and receptivity.
This workshop will include a deep therapeutic yoga practice which will focus on postures that nourish Kidney energy while strengthening the water element in the body.
Prepare to settle down for a long winters nap…
Price: $50, $45 Namaste members.

This Fall I invite you to supercharge your savasana with me. Set some time away every month to promote deep rest and relaxation. This practice can be especially beneficial as summer comes to an end and we face the challenge of transitioning back to the routines of school, work and family, followed by the demands of the upcoming holiday season.

In this class you will begin with slow, easeful movement to listen and respond to the needs of your body in the moment, and prepare (invite) your mind and body to move towards stillness and rest.

The second half of class will be filled with a deeply restorative, extended, acupuncture-assisted savasana. Acupuncture accentuates the benefits of savasana by aiding in stress relief and helping to quiet the busy mind.

Join us this Fall to soothe your nervous system, assist your body’s innate process of healing and recovery, enjoy a little laughter and a lot of love.

Price: $40; $108 for all 3 sessions.
