The Class, Gentle Yoga:

Yoga, Qi Gong and mindfulness inspired movement in celebration of our diverse bodies and diverse human experience. Yoga for connection, community and compassion. A loving space for queer, BIPOC persons, allies, lovers and friends. Gentleness in the compassionate way we treat our body, mind, heart and soul. Gentleness in the way we treat each other. Some movements may be strenuous and challenging, all movements at choice. You are the authority over your own body.

More about me and my teaching style:

My approach to teaching is eclectic and non-dogmatic. Dancer, witch, intuitive, empath, embodied seeker and truth teller. It is my intention to offer a celebratory and exploratory space for folx to practice mindful embodiment through playful movement and sensory awareness.

I encourage students to employ yoga, breath and movement as tools to explore present moment awareness of body, mind and heart. Allowing each individual to be attentive to their particular needs for expression and self care as they arise. Encouraging a growing sense of how to listen and respond to the cues from internal sources (body, breath, emotions, subtle energy) and external sources (environmental and sensory cues including visible and invisible forces of Qi and energy near and far). Utilizing sensitivity to our own impulses to inform moment to moment expression of physicality in the postures (yoga asana) and movements of body and breath.

Yoga, dance, improvisation, Qi Gong, trail running, playing in the mountains, climbing trees and rocks, mediation, medicine making, bodywork, Acupuncture, medical Qi Gong, I bring this all with me, as these are all parts of me and what I offer. With yoga as the scaffolding I show up and meet my class with an idea, inspiration or dream and then allow the class to unfold intuitively in response to what I hear, see and sense, the class unfolds with the unfolding. As a goofy, sensitive, irreverently reverent, holder of contradictions and paradox I welcome you to come yoga and build community with me.

My yoga, dance, movement, medicine lineages:

I honor and acknowledge the ancestral lineage of yoga teachers as brought to the United States from India. I am grateful to have studied with student’s of BKS Iyengar. My original introduction and study of Hatha Yoga comes from the Iyengar lineage. I am grateful to my most influential contemporary teacher’s Laurie Broderick Burr, Beth Riley, Ashley Sharp, and Denise Benitez. Thank you for teaching me about the importance of generosity, humor, spaciousness, humility and permission.

With a deep bow of gratitude I honor my dance and improvisation teachers and influences, Jacques Barnes, Marsha Singman, Aneesa Rasheed, Stamps School of Classical Ballet, Mary Grace Lentz, Ruth Zaporah, Catherine Duncan, Kathleen Hermesdorf, Nancy Stark Smith, Gretchen Spiro, Karl Frost and Steve Paxton.
